Monday

Spotlight on: Samantha Grayer!

The lovely Sam stops by for a quick chat about styling & selling stuff on ebay...
What is your trade mark procrastination activity?
I would say my trademark procrastination activity has got to be selling my belongings on eBay. Everything from left over items and clothing from shoots to my own unwanted clothes, I have even started shopping for items just to sell! Nothing is safe! I’m pretty sure I am going to have nothing left soon so maybe it’s a good thing I graduate this summer!
If you were stranded on a desert island and you could only have three items with you, what would they be?
I would have to take a really great long book, music and the love of my life.
What is the best item you have acquired as a stylist?
I have acquired so much in the last 3 years. I think I have picked the best career, as I am a sort of collector of anything and everything. I like to be surrounded by things I like, for me it is about looking at things when you are not looking at them, which is why I do it and when something has served it purpose I change it around.

Spotlight on: Ashleigh Upton!

This afternoon we catch up with the lovely Ashleigh...
What is your trade mark procrastination activity?
It has to be partying, I think im better at partying than anything else.
If you were stranded on a desert island and you could only have three items with you, what would they be?
I would have to say my iPhone, unlimited vodka and all my friends (if I can class them as an item)
What is the best item you have acquired as a stylist?
I love raiding the vintage shops in the Northern Quarter for my shoots, I think I own about 2000 pairs of shorts. I recently bought some reebok classic cycling pants which I now wear as apparel leggings.
What is the best bit about this course?
I have loved some of my photo shoots especially my most recent ones, I love looking back at the images when you know the hard work has paid off.. I also love meeting new people and the day after deadline day.

Spotlight on: Rebecca Day

Morning! Today Rebecca shares her experiences of the course...

What is your trade mark procrastination activity?
Normally drinking continuous cups of tea. Or sleeping!
If you were stranded on a desert island and you could only have three items with you, what would they be?
Noel Fielding, camera and laptop
What is the best item you have acquired as a stylist?
An incredibly huge bruise on my ankle from tripping over on location, from running after the reflector that was flying over the field! It was traumatic.
What was your favourite bit of the Style Unwrapped 2011 fashion show?
Being backstage as all the models were going out! It was nerve-wracking but exciting. & the boys street fusion collection, obviously that was the highlight.

Sunday

Spotlight on: 'Style Unwrapped 2011'

As part of our course we studied a 'fashion show production' module which enabled us to gain skills working on a live fashion event entirely organised and funded by the class! We worked in collaboration with the Harris Museum and their 'Global Threads' exhibition to create a show inspired by future trends with an Eastern fashion influence.

Each member of the class had their own personal role from styling & model casting to catering & fundraising. Everyone worked well as a team, at times it was tough and things went wrong but it gave us all valuable experience on working on a live fashion show. It was a great insight into all the effort and hard work that goes into an event like this that it usually unseen by the audience.

An invite to the show.

Dancers from the street style collection.                  Gold leaf and gold headpieces.
Arabian Jewels collection.                          Gold crowns on the male models.

Caroline Alexander, Keeper of Decorative Art at the Harris Museum, stated:
“We were delighted to host this catwalk show, the Global Threads exhibition has clearly been of major inspiration. Many of our visitors have a real interest in fashion and the creativity and energy demonstrated by all the students was really impressive.”

Check out the rest of the article here on the UCLan website

A video of the entire show including behind the scenes clips will be showing at the 'All Killer No Fillerexhibition. If you couldn't make it to the show itself its the next best thing!

The 'Global Threads' exhibition is still running at the Harris Museum until 30th June, Check it out.

Saturday

Spotlight on: THE QUEEN!

On Wednesday Her Royal Highness The Queen, or 'Lizzie' to our classmates visited Burnley on her Jubilee tour.
Samantha & Charlotte were lucky enough to dress up, practice their curtsey & give their portfolios a quick polish in preparation for meeting Her Majesty!

Read more about the day here on the UCLan website.

Charlotte looks amazing in a LRD (little red dress!) & Sam look incredible in her neon ombre blazer!
The Queen's Pistachio ensemble was a hit with the girls!

I'm sure she mentioned something in her speech about going to the 'All Killer No Filler Exhibition'...

Preparing the exhibition space...

Spotlight on: Danielle Smith!

We have a quick chat with the lovely Danielle...

What is your trade mark procrastination activity?
Cooking!! I'm now a complete cheesecake pro! white chocolate cheesecake at that!
If you were stranded on a desert island and you could only have three items with you, what would they be?
Some cocktails, a hammock and a bikini and embrace the island!
Have your housemates ever walked in on you doing something odd due to this course and the projects?
Yesss my housemates and other peoples housemates have seen me doing all sorts of strange things, from painting cucumber slices with glue and making a tiara out of them, to being caught dressed as a Teddy Boy posing in front of a cardboard background for a project.

Spotlight on: Carmen Thompstone-Pascoe!

The lovely Carmen shares her experiences of the course...

What is your trade mark procrastination activity?
Drinking coffee it cures any creative block
If you were stranded on a desert island and you could only have three items with you, what would they be?
Sun cream, an animal I could tame to be my pet and rope to make a swing
Have your housemates ever walked in on you doing something odd due to this course and the projects?
Creating a replica collection of Chanel Couture for eggs, spending hours gluing tiny sequins and individual strands of ostrich feathers to a minuscule dress was probably when my parents stopped asking about my projects
Have you ever had any strange/funny experiences on a shoot?
I assisted on a shoot where the model had to rip his trousers off, throw them in air and run around...it was my job to collect the trousers from the middle of the field and bring them back to the starting point. The scene was probably shot about 30 times. I had a good workout that day.
What was your favourite bit of the Style Unwrapped 2011 fashion show?
The adrenaline and excitement in the 10 minutes before the show started was intense but such a good feeling.

Spotlight on: Sally Pickering!

Next up is our one-to-one with the lovely Sally...

What is your trade mark procrastination activity?
I make up super organised colour coded time tables with hourly slots for specific tasks and daily achievement targets. They’ve never been used yet. Nor will I ever get back the hours I wasted colouring in.
What is the best item you have acquired as a stylist?
An ankle length multi-coloured moo moo, I found it in a vintage shop in Prenzlauer berg. Its amazing!
Have you ever had any strange/funny experiences on a shoot?
I did a shoot out on the moors in the middle of winter, with two topless male models and a lot of beer. It ended up working really well but the poor boys were blue by the end of the day
Have you ever ended up appearing in any shoots throughout your three years here?
Surprisingly, yes. For a trend idea based on the word asphyxiate – I ended up wrapped entirely in cling film around my upper torso, head and neck. I only realised after that a few of the images on my contact sheets in my sketchbook showed a hint of nipple.

Spotlight on: Fay Bruno!

Good evening! We've got a few more Q&A's with the girls to keep you entertained...first up tonight is the lovely Fay!

What is your trade mark procrastination activity?
Drinking tea, lots of tea and biscuits and watching my good old friend Jeremy Kyle!
If you were stranded on a desert island and you could only have three items with you, what would they be?
My cat, the boy and probably biscuits!

Spotlight on: Sophie Kenny!

Sophie takes the time to share a few of her favourite elements of the course...

What is your trade mark procrastination activity?
I hate sitting around doing nothing so when I have spare time I go to the gym or boxing classes.
Have your housemates ever walked in on you doing something odd due to this course and the projects?
Yes! In my final project I created fashion monsters and for one look I sewed ballons all over a pair of leggings teamed with a kermit the frog mask and got one of my housemates to try the look on. I also got caught gluing a zip and scouring pads onto a piece of drain guard i think some people struggle to see how its fashion !
What was your favourite bit of the Style Unwrapped 2011 fashion show?
My Favourite moment was when the break dancers did a routine on the catwalk, I loved the shock element and the surprised looks on
Amanda, Clare and Jacquis faces as the whole class kept it a secret!

Spotlight on: Sarah Thomas!

Good morning! We take two minutes to get to know the lovely Sarah a bit better...
What is your trade mark procrastination activity?
Baking! I finally mastered how to make welsh cakes and triple chocolate brownies. Needless to say my waistline is paying the price.
Have your housemates ever walked in on you doing something odd due to this course and the projects?
My flatmates havent but my boyfriend got a bit freaked out when he found me making a wedding cake out of polystyrene for a shoot.
What was your favourite bit of the Style Unwrapped 2011 fashion show?
Hearing the reaction from the crowd when the topless boys took to the catwalk.

Friday

Spotlight on: Tara Bamforth!

A quick natter with the lovely Tara...
What is your trade mark procrastination activity?
DANCING is my favourite thing to do. Whether it’s on my own or with a friend if I hear a good beat I will be practicing the latest Beyonce move.
If you were stranded on a desert island and you could only have three items with you, what would they be?
1. My little three year old brother, he never fails to entertain me. 2. Chocolate, every girl needs something sweet in her life. 3. Moisturiser. I HATE DRY SKIN.
Have your housemates ever walked in on you doing something odd due to this course and the projects?
Not so much odd but there have been several times I have nearly poisoned mine and my housemates lungs with the fumes from spray paint. I just think everything looks better sprayed gold.
What is the best item you have acquired as a stylist?
Sitting in my room I have a pair of bright orange retro running shorts, I will wear them one day! Just need the determination to go to the gym first.
What was your favourite bit of the Style Unwrapped 2011 fashion show?
Watching one of the male models faces drop, as I placed a sparkly gold crown on his head. And of course the freestyle dancers, I wanted to join them.
What is the best bit about this course? (model casting beautiful boys etc?)
Being surrounded by so many creative people and letting ideas bounce of each other. And the fact that Jacqui and Claire’s office door is always open!

Spotlight on: Rachelle Bell!

We take a few moments to chat to Rachelle...

What is your trade mark procrastination activity?
I swear I’m so easily distracted, I’ll be on YouTube watching a show or new campaign and then 2 hours later I’m still on YouTube watching videos of cute animals! EVERYTIME! Also addicted to Pinterest so usually male model casting evolves into a ‘beautiful men’ board haha!
If you were stranded on a desert island and you could only have three items with you, what would they be?
1) iPhone so I could have music, camera and all the other crazy apps to keep me entertained, maybe I could phone to be rescued when I got bored too! 2) Factor 50 sun cream-lobster red isn’t a great colour on me. 3) Scissors so I could fashion myself some new exotic clothes out of palm tree leaves and also keep my pesky fringe trimmed!
What is the best item you have acquired as a stylist?
I’m always scouring flea markets, charity shops and eBay trying to find weird and wonderful things for my shoots! I think my best find was a vintage Missoni cardigan for just £1, safe to say that I kept it for myself after the shoot :)

Spotlight on: Yasmin Sobeih!

Catching up with the lovely Yasmin...
What is your trade mark procrastination activity?
Eating out and leaving the country!
If you were stranded on a desert island and you could only have three items with you, what would they be?
I would take a bikini, Iphone and a family member (So I don't get lonely)
What was your favourite bit of the Style Unwrapped 2011 fashion show?
The best part is working together as a team to all produce a successful show in which we all learnt something new! And the break dancers :)

Spotlight on: Sophie Davies!

Today we catch up with the lovely Sophie Davies!

‎What is your trademark procrastination activity?
 Shopping :)
If you were stranded on a desert island and you could only have three items with you, what would they be?
Swimwear, alcohol to pass the time and music! Actually  I think I want to amend my answer and go with Channing Tatum because on a desert island it will be hot so he'll be shirtless and will add to the scenery, alcohol and a camera to remember all the times me and Channing shared together!!
What is the best item you have acquired as a stylist?
More items in my wardrobe that I've kept instead of returning :|
What was your favourite bit of the Style Unwrapped 2011 fashion show?
Being in charge of backstage so I was in full view of the ab show :)
